How We Reached 2.2 Million People on a Project-Based Budget

Big reach doesn't require a big agency retainer. We break down the exact strategy that helped one of our clients — the Downtown Moultrie Association — reach over 2.2 million people in just 60 days. Here's what we did, and what you can replicate for your own mission.

The Client & the Challenge

The Downtown Moultrie Association (DMA) is the heartbeat of Colquitt County — dedicated to the preservation, beautification, and economic vitality of a historic city center. When they came to us ahead of the 2025 holiday season, they had a big goal: maximize community participation and economic activity during the most high-stakes stretch of the year.

What We Were Up Against

Before we could run, we had to build the runway. The DMA faced three foundational hurdles: no robust tracking (GA4 or Google Search Console) to measure what was actually working, a website that needed significant SEO and UX improvements to serve as a reliable information hub, and a largely reactive media strategy that was missing opportunities every week.

The Strategy: Shop, Dine & Shine

We built a multi-channel campaign around a single rallying theme — "Shop, Dine & Shine" — and executed on three fronts simultaneously. First, we laid the technical foundation: GA4, Google Search Console, and Yoast SEO Premium, provided at no charge, so every result we generated could actually be measured. Second, we went all-in on high-impact vertical video. On Facebook alone, we published 43 Reels capturing the magic of marquee events like "Lights! Lights! Thanksgiving Night!" — the kind of content that makes people feel something and share it with their neighbors. Third, we executed a focused keyword strategy that put the DMA in the #1 organic search position for terms like "moultrie christmas parade 2025" and "moultrie ga christmas lights" — exactly what people in the region were searching for.

The Results

In 60 days, the campaign delivered a 178% increase in engagement and a total post reach of 2.2 million. The DMA gained 1,378 net Facebook followers and 182 net Instagram followers. The website attracted 4,284 new users with a 50% engagement rate for US visitors. But the result we're most proud of? Visitors started describing downtown Moultrie as an "old fashion hallmark movie." That's not a metric — that's a movement.

What You Can Take From This

You don't need a massive budget to create massive reach. You need a clear theme, a technical foundation that lets you measure what matters, and content that makes people feel something. When your systems are clear and your story is real, abundance follows. That's the Hatch & Fly way — and it's what we bring to every client we serve.
